Yes this is a time that I give thanks to all the men and women who lost their life fighting for this great Country. I am very proud and thankful to my grandfather,both my Uncles and very proud of my father.

Thank you Dean for giving us another Weekly Wisdom! I am thankful to all the men and women who give their lives for our freedom! There are many of us who have a friend, a relative, or a loved one who has served, or is currently on duty far away from their families. We salute them and think of them always, but especially today, and we pray for their safe return.

Dean, your words drip w/truth, that's why I follow you & the rest of us, my dad came fr mex so Im a generation away fr changing my family's & friends lives, all of them are struggling, my aunts husband just got laid off fr a 20yr old job as a comp engineer & he is 57 so he is freaked out understandably, so i feel the weight now of stepping it up & leading the fam in to real estate investing, i have 3 prop's under contract in KC so I w/be closing on them soon! Thx so much

Thanks for taking the time to reflect and share. My grand parents also came over to the USA from Europe and I can not even begin to imgaine the struggles they faced. It is amazing to think that some people can't imagine moving between states let along across a vast ocean to another country. I remember the large old trunks in my grand parent's basement with all the stickers when they came to the USA. Their sacrifice would benefit future generations. Their "why" was huge and I am so glad they did not give up on the pursui of the American Dream!

I had an opportunity to tour and visit Pearl Harbor and visit the USS Arizona Memorial. These brave individuals served their country and gave the ultimate sacrifice. The sacrifices of yesterday and even today for the future of tomorrow. We often learn and respect the history of our nation and the world. We are grateful to all of the men and women that served our country yesterday, today and for all the future generations to come. God bless America!

Happy Memorial Day to all! It is such a great time to honor all that help to build and defend this great country. The American Dream is alive for us and future generations! We must carry the torch and ensure the dream, passion and desire burns in generations for years to come!

I want honor the many who have touched my life and your visionary and amazing grandfather and so many others who have touched our lives from family to teachers to best friends forever to whoever has had a positive influence on us.

First to your grandfather. I remember a few years ago when you did a video blog about being in Italy with your father. What a treat for you to be able to share those memories with your father and to honor the legacy of your grandfather.

For myself, I want to honor the many Veterans for whom this weekend is set aside for. The barbeques and parades and other parts of this holiday are important as as we connect or reconnect with friends and family. But there are so many ways that we can honor our fallen members of the United States armed forces. Tonight I heard the reading of the 495 men and women from California who have sacrificed their lives in service to our country in Afghanistan and Iraq. Tomorrow I will spend a few moments in silent tribute to all who have served and sacrificed for our country.

I also would like to acknowledge those in my immediate family who have served and have since passed. Although they did not die in a theater of war, they served honorably and I feel so much appreciation for their service. First, I give tribute to my great grandfather who served in World War I. Then there Is my uncle who served in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II and my Dad who also served in World War II and stayed in the military to raise the five of us on a sergeant's pay. That was no small task, Dad. Thanks. I would like to honor my brother, who served two tours in Vietnam. And also my sister who also served during our involvement in Vietnam, but never actually spent time in Vietnam.

Thank you, Dean, for bringing this Weekly Wisdom to us and reminding us of those we honor and remember, including your grandfather. I appreciate all of the resources you bring to us. This holiday season gives us a perfect time to appreciate the many opportunities we have available to us. And it is a great way to connect with family and friends. Have a fabulous Memorial Day.

thank you to all the servicemen and women who lost their lives protecting this great nation. i also thank all the servicemen and women serving today and in the past, who are still living. i honor you. i would like to thank and honor my Dad, who served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict,my uncle, who was a Marine during the Viet Nam War and my uncle who was Special Forces and did scouting before the Viet Nam War started. his team of 8 were ambushed and he was the only one who got out alive. i also thank and honor my son, who is Army EOD (bomb squad) and stationed at Fort Knox. He has been deployed 3 times and been awarded the Bronze Star. i thank and honor my son's wife, who also served in the Army and went to Iraq as the only woman with 187 men. again, thank you all for your sacrifices and selflessness. i salute you!

Our Fathers from generations before us made decisions base on their current position that they were facing during that time. We thank them for being brave and having the courage to be overcomers. This is a day of remembrance for them. We honor them on this day and give thanks for what they accomplished. To all the ones who played a part in making a difference we salute you for your loyalty.

Thanks Dean for sharing your thoughts on this special day. Even though this is essentially, in its origin, an American Holiday, I honor not only the fallen Americans, but those in the Armed Forces in the UK who bravely fought and now fight along side American soldiers. I am from England originally and both my Grandads served in the second world war and my friends continue to serve this day. We honor their sacrifice. Thank you Dean for sharing your thoughts about your grandfather on this special day. I think of my grandfather as well. He was such a special man and served in the Korean War, overcame many challenges in life. I am working on making a difference in my children's life. I don't want my children to just wake up everyday working for someone who you work hard for but can get rid of you in a flash just because. I want them to have the financial freedom to have a life enjoy what God gave us in this world to enjoy. I started with my husband and I taking a chance, stepping outside of the box and having faith.

Hi Dean, I have the pleasure of being part of an organization here in Denver who are Police, Fire Fighters & First Responders. For the past two years I have attended a private event where I have had the pleasure of meeting those who have served either for a short period of time or for many years. Also I meet families and Veterans who have lost their loved ones and it reminds me that life is fragile and everyday we must be grateful for all the people in our lives, remember those who have past and live each day with respect and appreciation for those who serve us and keep us safe everyday. "Support Our Troops" and "TAPS" are just a couple of ways of giving back. Thank you Dean for this great website and for being able to share. Have a great week.

My sentiments mirror those expressed already. My dad spent a lifetime in the service of our country, working his way through the ranks from a young Army private to Major at his retirement. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, yet he spoke so little of his WW II service, I didn't realize this until the last days of his life. He, like so many, served willingly and modestly, quiet heroes who gave so much for us all.

Thank you, Dean, for reminding us of the true significance of today's holiday. Let's never forget those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to guarantee our freedom.

You are awesome Dean, always building bridges of irresistible influence. You always give us so much to think about and to consider. That is really important for us as individuals to do to let our minds explore a topic.
A week from tomorrow I will turn 65 and I think of my own father who lived exactly 75 years and passed on the day before he would turn 76. He worked very hard all his life, a jack of all trades and never graduated from high school. He joined the Army when he was 18 and served as a foot soldier under General Patton. Dad would never talk about the experience and all I could do was read about it in the history books. One part in the history books talks about the grueling death march and the photos were horrendous to say the least. I just can not even imagine going thru that. I think the wars of today are so very different than World War II but no less traumatic and we are able to see some of it play out on tv as in the "shock and awe".
I at a young age remember my paternal grandmother referring to "Decoration Day" and then she passed away when I was 8 years old. It is the Patriotic way to remember all who have willingly placed their lives on the line for us and passed on and to all who have survived and given support to soldiers and their families.
God Bless America the land that I love - Home of the free and the brave.

Thanks first to God for giving our founders the wisdom and fortitude to create this "promised land" of freedom. Hopefully our generations will preserve it as intended. A close second, thanks to all those who sacrificed their lives for us. They knew what they were doing, what would likely happen when they fought for our country yet they did it. "Thanks" is not enough so what we MUST DO is expand and protect what they lived, fought and died for. Third, Dean, as you mentioned in your WW, most all of us have to thank our ancestors for taking that leap of faith, getting on a boat and coming here. Mine from Germany & Spain. Think of it; they were the ultimate entreprenuers/ adventurers. It is OUR duty now to take the baton in this marathon and continue forward. Thanks to those fallen heros of our military and their families.

We definitely need to be thankful and remember all of those that sacrificed so much for us all so we may enjoy our freedom. I have many family who served,some came home and some did not
My Dad served in The Korean War,and did return home. I was blessed to be able to enjoy many years of his wisdom and Advice before he went home to Heaven a few years ago.We are so truly Blessed to be able to live in our wonderful country and be Free and also to be who we want to be if we put our minds to it and Our Best foot Forward

Thanks to all the families who have supported, sacrificed and paid the price for freedom in this country. Thanks to my uncles who continue to serve and protect. Blessings on this day.

So many have fallen, given the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. I am thankful and pause to remember. My father did not lose his life in battle, but he did serve in WWII and so you have given me cause to reflect. Albert Emil Rombach was his name, born in 1913. I realized this March, he would have been 100 years old. I was born late in his life, when he was 42 - the only child my parents had - long awaited. My dad died when he was about to turn 60. He had a long and ugly bout of illness, and when he went home to heaven, it was a relief in so many ways. His life was one of sacrifice and service. When he was just 13 years old, he had to quit school and work to support his mother and siblings. He never got to return to his dreams, as the depression set in. He married and went into the army. All I know is that he was a sargaent and served in some kind of medical whelm. I remember some military medals in the desk when I was growing up and a photo of a handsome young man in uniform, my dad before I was ever even thought of. His first wife proved unfaithful, and he divorced her after the war, making way for my mother and ultimately me. Funny the things you remember. My dad had a green blotch on his arm - a tatoo that had been "overwritten" - it used to be a heart with that first wife's name - oops. Dad was a carpenter, in Cleveland. That meant working in freezing temperatures and snow in the winter, when work could be found. I can picture him coming home, with his nose and cheeks literally purple from the cold. Mom would have a shot and a beer ready. He'd give me a cold hug and smile. No matter how hard the day - his eyes would twinkle and he had a sweet smile for me. I remember a ritual we had. He would turn on the kitchen radio and we would snack on ryecrisps with mustard and limburger cheese (and he had a beer). Funny father and daughter time, but I loved it, and the memory is warm. Dad was an artist; he was masterful at drawing the human body. Dad had a beautiful singing voice. I remember this song: "On a little violet, a little raindrop fell down one day, and there he fell asleep. And when he wakened up again, much to his surprise, he was a little violet with tear drops in his eyes." Dad was so many wonderful things, but he sacrificed them all to work for my mother and I, after serving his country and working for his parents. I was nearly 18 when he died, but my memories are vague. I feel like I never really knew him in an adult way. But I loved him and still do. And today, I think of him with fond gratitude.
And to those who have lost a loved one in war - my heart goes out to you, yet with you I am proud. Proud of your loved one, proud of our nation. May God always bless America.

Thank you for this Dean and Hello all.

My Grandfather was a teenager in WWII was wounded and without a weapon. He saw everyone in his platoon wiped out by a sniper other than one other soldier who was able to sneak up and disarm the sniper. Today, I think of him also and how he faced unfathomable difficulty and pushed on. May I honor his gift and draw upon his ability to go on and face the fears and struggles presented to me with even the slightest amount of greatness. Thank you Grandpa, thank you!
