“BEWARE: If you have rental listings on CL: some of our listings are getting copied by scammers who then advertise our properties at MUCH CHEAPER prices. The scam is to get someone to wire them a deposit site unseen to secure the "amazing deal" on the property.”
Another person has a solution which he states: “I have had this happen quite a bit. One tip that helps us is we always try to put a link to our website and our free 24 hour recorded hotline, which helps you screen for the serious tenants as well. Today with ALL the scams going on everyone, not just CL, Credibility and Trust are HUGE!”

I seen these suspicious ads a lot on craigslist and always thought they were kinda fishy. These scammers will do anything to rob someone for a quick buck. Thanks for sharing

Good post. I have a rental service and I have ran in to this before. I can pretty much tell if it's a scam now.

Thank you for the heads up. It seems there is always someone out there that is willing to try and cheat the system, and made it tougher for those that do things honestly. You can also use a google doc link where they can fill out the information you are requesting. That way if they meet your criteria, you can contact them.
This is great information. 1 thing to note on CL advertising in general. Though CL is a great way to reach a myriad of people, it’s also is a great venue for scams. It’s important, especially when advertising that you check your ad, and others ads frequently. Check your ads on a regular basis and those that have been posted since yours was activated, if you see others using your ad flag them. CL responds to flags quickly and will take the appropriate steps to make sure it’s resolved. It may take a little extra time, but it’s well worth the effort.
