Should I Get My R.E. License, or take R.E. classes?

For a beginner, would getting my R.E. license benefit me or help me understand the business better? Or can this all be possible without it? Im curious, do most of you on here have a R.E. license, or a R.E. background?

In the beginning,

I took RE classes to learn more about the real estate process. I didn't get my license because of the adverse effect I felt that the necessary disclosures would have on my business. It worked out for me.

R.E. License

Just going through the posts on this site is like going through RE courses. There is a ton of great information in here. It is not neccesary to have a RE license to invest. You can focus your time on working on deals instead of taking the time to get a license. An RE license will give you access to the MLS properties that only agents have, so there will be pros and cons either way you go. There are a lot of very successful investors on this site that started with no knowledge of real estate at all.

The majority of people on this site do not have their RE license.

There are some that do and some that don't. You will get opinions as to whether it is beneficial and opinions to the contrary.

It is just like anything else, everyone has their own ideas, as well they should.

I, personally, had my RE license a few years ago and decided I preferred not being an agent. I am thankful for the knowledge that I gained during that time but feel more comfortable not having to disclose that I am an agent and like the freedom that I have with not having my license. There are many things you are not allowed to do as an agent that you can do when you aren't.

But there are some people here, like Elix, who love being a REA and would not have it any other way.

It is truly just a personal decision.
