Hello DG Family Members ...
In spite of everyone supportively hollering "push, push, push" ... I am now 6 months past my due date.
(Although I only 'conceived' that I could do this seven months ago, I thought that I would have my first deal six months ago.)
In spite of some false starts ... I've learned a ton.
This is a ***** DON'T QUIT ****** message for us all. The new year is going to bring new things!
I, personally, cannot afford to work another six months "in hopes" of a paycheck. But -- I also cannot afford to permanently walk away from the best opportunity for financial freedom of my lifetime.
Neither can you.
If you have needed to step away for awhile but are back now, please share your journey of persistence with us.
And let's all keep our eyes on the prize !!!!!!

is always needed to become a success in this business. However, I would be remiss if I didn't point out that the economy is the most challenging I have ever seen in 30 years of real estate investing. For most people I would suggest keeping one foot in the real paycheck world while chasing your dreams as a real estate investor as your "second job". But great riches can happen with perserverance. You have to look into your own heart to determine if you have what it takes. It is a personal decision. But remember that the only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.

Thanks for the support ...
I'm juggling things now.
Previously, I was eating / drinking / burping REI.
Never giving up, yet prowling for other income in more directions too.
From necessity !!!
Thanks, Jan, for the honesty and perspective.
And ...
Keeping one foot in the real paycheck world sums it up, too.
Chin up everybody.

You are supposed to wait nine months before your due date!! You still have 2 months or more before you start pushing. And its contracts you work with, not contractions! I am sure you are centimeters away from your first deal! Get that delivery team in place.
Seriously though, its takes time to learn REI and make a business out of it. Not just a lucky deal here and there. I did not get my first deal for 6 months and I worked at it full time 24/7. Don't give up, we still have to do a probate deal together!

I'm keeping one foot in the real paycheck world, but really itching to step ALL the way into REI!! There are days I get fed up with my crappy job and want to quit, but I know better. I have been unemployed too many times the last couple of years, and at least the bills are getting paid. This time around, I want to make sure I do it right and educate myself as much as possible. I WILL NOT give up and will continue to have a positive attitude about succeeeding and keep pushing myself to reach my goals!
Happy Holidays to all!!!

We can do this ........ because we "know" we can do this.
Yet, it's good to remind each other to never give up.
I saw a greeting card recently that said:
"Sometimes I don't know if life is trying to pass me by ... or run me over!"
Well, while life is doing "whatever it is doing" we'll keep doing REI !
Deal ?

Merry Christmas, and Season's Blessings to us all.
In a few days, there's a whole new year out there waiting to be shaped into
whatever we decide.
For that matter, there's a whole new " DECADE " just around the corner.
In my gut, I feel good things coming !!!!!!
(And no, I'm not really pregnant.)
~ S
MM ~ I didn't know whether to LOL or scream for an epidural !!!
But, yes, I do feel closer than ever (primarily in attitude) although it's
ironic that my time is divided and diverted now. Excellent (and clever)
advice about getting / keeping the delivery team in place !!! Thanks...
For my first several months, I had the luxury of doing REI 24/7 ... but now I
must ** must ** must ** find a job providing some health care benefits.
Alas, I won't be doing REI full-time as I go into the new year. However, this
has not weakened my resolve. I can still make it happen. How do I know?
Because I believe I can.
---------------------------------------------
Everybody -- Believe you can !!!
Then, work your ass off.
That pretty-much sums up the formula for success.
(Too bad that's only three sentences and I can't turn it into a book I can publish.)
~ Sherri
If it's any consolation ... I think I'd rather have done it in the sequence you are doing it.
It felt great to do REI full-time while starting out, but there is a lot of floundering when you have all of the time -- but none of the real knowledge yet.
Maybe it's better to get the REI knowledge first, while still getting a paycheck? Then hit the ground running when you're on your own clock.
Just a snack for thought.
I got spoiled (although, thankfully, not lazy) doing it in reverse.
And now, I need a second check to accompany the "reality check" I've got.
Don't fret.
The crappy job is temporary. You are passionate! You can do this. I can tell.
~ Sherri
So glad to have you back! See my smiling face?
And looks like the feeling is shared!

Sorry, I did not repond to your post. I never bookmarked this thread and just happened to run across it again.
I hope all is well and you enjoyed your holidays.
How's the old job search going? BTW, my employer doesn't offer ANY benefits...much less healthcare. I pay for it on my own. It is expensive and not very good!
Lately I've let the "crappy job" override my "passion" and haven't progressed like I feel I should. I have a plan for that. I'm giving up one of my shifts in order to concentrate more on REI (and give my old body a break). I'm geeting way too old to be on my feet all day...especially with all the orthopaedic issues I have. Altough this will hurt my meager earnings; it will give me the strength (and initiative) to carry on.
Thank you so much for the positive reinforcement (you too, Jim). It is much appreciated!

I totally understand your dilemma. I am supposed to go back to my regular job Feb 12 after being off almost 6 months on med leave. I am milking it for as long as possible. I am dreading going back so much as I am on my feet constantly there, too-selling cars.
I have decided when I go back, I am going to tell my boss I can only work four days instead of five. (Hopefully, he will go for that) I researched and found I can continue my ins w/at least 30 hrs/wk. I actually have a GREAT ins plan so I need to keep it until I am making enough w/RE to pay for this good of a plan out-of-pocket. As we get older, we realize we need ins more and more often. (sigh) I will definitely have to start making money w/RE tho because I cannot afford to cut my hours and pay my bills, too.
No problem! The money is on the way!

VERY catchy headliner !!! I saw that and went what the @#$@ how can that be?? Took a short to figure it out. OOPS!! Wrong context. . Yes nice group of people here. Liked your comment about time out. I've taken a couple very short ones. Found a use for all this snow. Yep. Take my frustrations out on it!
Best wishes to you.

Just keep fighting through it, and I promise you once you get that first deal done it's going to be so much easier to repeat the success. It's just like a roller coaster. First starting out is like that initial slow climb up that large steep hill to that first drop. Once you get over that hump at the top and close your first deal, it all down hill and fast paced from there!! =)
Keep at it, success is coming!

I see where you all are coming from and I am actually glad that I came across this post, because honestly for the past few days I have been soooooo overwhelmed with REI and I thought I was taking a turn for the worst with this but I think I have it all under control. I'm taking one day at a time and one goal at a time.....and to agree with what Grazi said this is too BIG of an opportunity to just up and quit I see that for a fact. I know my problem is just information overload sometimes and I don't know how to get over it and that's when I start to panic and second guess myself and what I'm doing and even getting to the point of asking myself.........Can I really do this? But I know with all the resources I have around me and especially the DG family here I know that it can and WILL be done no matter how long it takes to get up that first "roller coaster hill". I am here to stay and I will not let anything hold me back! Thanks for all the great words of wisdom everyone!!

We all get to that point, sometimes often, where we just get "fried" ! Just take a day or so off (or however long you need) and you will be fresh and eager to go at it again.
It becomes an addiction! But a good one!
You definitely can do it. I can tell you have grit!
