By trade I am a Field Support Engineer in the telecommunications industry. Due to a recent sell off of my subsidiary, however, I have recently become unemployed. Although, my "early retirement" may be coming to an abrupt end as I have an interview with an interested employer 2 days from this writing. Being unemployed for the first time in over 30 years has been a mixed bag for me. The bad is obvious. The good is that it has given me the time to research a dream; REI.
I am brand new to REI and have not yet made a deal. I have set goals, developed a plan, and am in the process of building my investing team as Dean recommended in his book. The first snag I encountered, as you can imagine, is obtaining conventional financing. I have excellent credit, more than 50% equity in my home and a decent amount of cash available but, with no job and negative cash flow, I can't even get a HELOC against my residence. Also, I live in a very small town in Virginia where the local job market has really been hit hard so, I am going to be looking in other areas and at other sources of cash. None of this would have been possible, however, if I hadn't found DG & family.
I have looked at many other so called REI courses and found that most were, at best, grossly incomplete. Most explained a very small segment of REI but left way too much out. I usually came away with more questions than I had before I read them. That is, until I found Dean's 2 books, BAREM & PFRERN. I was admittedly skeptical when I first saw his TV Infomercial. I thought he looked like another one of those guys looking to make a buck off of the desperation of the less informed. Boy was I wrong! I decided to order his 2 books only because the price was right. I am glad now that I did. Dean's books have been the most complete & well rounded source of information I have found. After reading both & taking detailed notes, I feel, for the first time, that I have the knowledge and confidence to get started.
I still do have questions and, the more I learn, the more questions I have. But that too I see Dean has covered with this site & all the resources available here; especially the people. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone in the DG family. And, I want to thank you all ahead of time for the help I am expecting to receive from everyone here. And of course, a special thanks to Dr. Dean.
