Shake it off!

Shake it off!

I'm new to the forum so I hope I'm posting this in the right section.

These past few days have been a bit rough. I am new to investing and the DG system. I have be extremely motivated and doing everything that was taught about building a buyers/sellers list. I've posted on craiglist, interviewed a couple agents, contacted banks about REO's etc.

I have set a goal to make my first deal in 30 days. I figured this might be a challenge, but not impossible, since I still have a full time job. I'm almost to week 3 with no success. These past weeks have been full of emotional ups and downs. At one point I was so excited to get a list of REO's but then I hit a low when I couldn't find an investor to hand it off to. To make matters worst, the agent I thought would be helpful was anything but.

Another high was when I got a hit from my Craigslist ad, but they just turned out to be spammers. I even responded to others ad's and asked if they provide a bird bog fee. Once again they were just spammers.

I began to get to the point that when I saw my phone blink with an email notification I got super excited to check my email, only to find out Facebook was letting me know that one of my "friends" are inviting me somewhere I was never going to go or posting something I cared nothing about.

This was really started to get under my skin and I started to feel discourage. I was starting to feel the pressure of the goal I had set for myself and the possibility of not reaching it. I take myself a bit seriously and failure to me was not an option. I was feeling mentally and physically tired.

I then realized that I needed to take a step back for a second. For 2 days (well really 1 1/4) I told myself I wasn't going to look up anything RE related, call any banks, etc. I needed to refocus, and regroup. I got back to reading my bible and just breathing. You'd be surprised at how different your breathing is when you're stressed.

Today, I am starting anew. I feel a lot better and ready to continue pushing for success. I am not just doing this for myself but also for my family. I'm not going to let the many obstacles that WILL get in my way stop me from achieving my goals.

I just wanted to share this because I wanted to let anyone out there know that its ok to step back for a second and regroup. To be successful you need to have focus. Take whatever time you need to regain your composure and confidence. Shake it off and then get back out there.

I hope posting this helps someone as its helped me just sharing it.

Shake it off

I know what you mean. I have not been able to find a realtor who wants to work with me. I know that this is supossed to be the first step but all say I need money which I don't have. I have posted ads asking if anyone would like me to help me find them houses and no luck. I don't know if I felt more like screaming or crying, I was so frustrated. I have no option, I must make this work if my husband or going to survive. We lost everything and are starting over about 15,000 in debt. It almost feels good to know that we are not the only ones not having it easy getting going, but like you, we know it does work and will if we just refuse to give up. With just 1 bird-dog sale we will have a base to work from to make this work right. I did the same thing you did and stepped back for a couple of days, then started from scratch again to see if I could find out where I skipped something important that would make this work easier. Good luck.

Getting started

Being committed is the biggest thing. I think the first one is always the hardest. However, it seems that once you break down that wall, everything starts to flow. I guess it's because we have proven that we can actually do it.
You will always have new challenges, but don't give up. Learn and grow from each experience.
Surround yourself with quality people and stay positive.
Use this beginning time to build your team. You will need a good title/escrow officer, a good loan officer (even if you are only wholesaling) as they might have buyers for you, a good attorney is good to have in your corner, you'll need a good accountant. If you haven't already, it might be a good time to set up an LLC or some other entity to do business under.
You are starting something that most people thing is insane and for that I applaud you.
Keep going and I know you will succeed.

Keep going You Can Do It

I know it hard to work and do your business. I work 9 hours a day but every moment I have I put my all of my time into my business. I found my WHY and now I on fire. I look at my goals I've set for my self Which is the SMART Goal System.

S- Specific: A specific goal has a much greater chance of being accomplished than a general goal. To set a specific goal you must answer the six “W” questions:

*Who: Who is involved?

*What: What do I want to accomplish?

*Where: Identify a location.

*When: Establish a time frame.

*Which: Identify requirements and constraints.

*Why: Specific reasons, purpose or benefits of accomplishing the goal.

M- Measurable: - Establish concrete criteria for measuring progress toward the attainment of each goal you set.

When you measure your progress, you stay on track, reach your target dates, and experience the exhilaration of achievement that spurs you on to continued effort required to reach your goal.

To determine if your goal is measurable, ask questions such as……

How much? How many?

How will I know when it is accomplished?

A- Attainable Attainable – When you identify goals that are most important to you, you begin to figure out ways you can make them come true. You develop the attitudes, abilities, skills, and financial capacity to reach them. You begin seeing previously overlooked opportunities to bring yourself closer to the achievement of your goals.

You can attain most any goal you set when you plan your steps wisely and establish a time frame that allows you to carry out those steps. Goals that may have seemed far away and out of reach eventually move closer and become attainable, not because your goals shrink, but because you grow and expand to match them. When you list your goals you build your self-image. You see yourself as worthy of these goals, and develop the traits and personality that allow you to possess

R- Realistic - To be realistic, a goal must represent an objective toward which you are both willing and able to work. A goal can be both high and realistic; you are the only one who can decide just how high your goal should be. But be sure that every goal represents substantial progress.

A high goal is frequently easier to reach than a low one because a low goal exerts low motivational force. Some of the hardest jobs you ever accomplished actually seem easy simply because they were a labor of love.

T- Timely – A goal should be grounded within a time frame. With no time frame tied to it there’s no sense of urgency. If you want to lose 10 lbs, when do you want to lose it by? “Someday” won’t work. But if you anchor it within a timeframe, “by May 1st”, then you’ve set your unconscious mind into motion to begin working on the goal.
Your goal is probably realistic if you truly believe that it can be accomplished. Additional ways to know if your goal is realistic is to determine if you have accomplished anything similar in the past or ask yourself what conditions would have to exist to accomplish this goal.

T can also stand for Tangible – A goal is tangible when you can experience it with one of the senses, that is, taste, touch, smell, sight or hearing.

When your goal is tangible you have a better chance of making it specific and measurable and thus attainable

I really hope this will help you. It's helping me get everything done. Plus working with MY Why is this IMPORTANT TO YOU worksheet.

Have a great day hope to hear from you soon

Thanks

Its a marathon....etc. etc.- you know the rest.

Things started happening for me when I started seeing REI as a long-term, life-long type of venture. I had short-term goals of course, but the main thing was to change my life in becoming an investor, and to keep moving forward.
If you miss your 1st deadline, then set another one, and another one, and another one. Keep on reaching for that next goal, always learn from your missteps and failings, and do it better next time.
I can now see myself as a 75-year old and still doing REI, because thats what my LIFE is now all about. That won't change in 30 days...or 300 days...or 3000.
Good luck.
