While many people start in real estate they often look up to those that have licenses. They are susceptible to their influence and guidance whether right or wrong.
One of the common occurrences is when a Realtor tells us that a certain law has been passed in the state. This law prevents assignments, makes short sales illegal, makes it so we as home owners cannot use seller financing when selling our own homes or even make money when doing a real estate transaction.
Consider this: The Realtor has a good chance they are wrong. Many Realtors have not had the professional training to decipher legal text. Many of the those that will tell you a legal point is one of difficulty to you have probably never read the law themselves but have obtained hearsay.
I often hear of these types of issues and have dealt with them myself. Here is what I do: I ask them to show me the law. I ask them to present the law to me. Most cannot and those that can have miss read it.
Nothing against Realtors but the take away from this is that you check the references yourself.

I agree. When dealing with individuals, I question and ask for the facts. Just a habit I guess. In light of the fact that my brother is an attorney.....he always tells me in any situation, "ALWAYS get the facts." Thanks for your post.
